APRS

I maintain station K2XAP-10, an infill digipeater and igate feeding aprs.fi.

Hardware

• Microsat WX3in1 Plus 2.0: TNC and digipeater/igate module
• Retevis RA79: budget HT with the nice feature of direct USB-C power without a battery installed
• Generic mobile VHF antenna

The digipeater is configured to only repeat WIDE1-1 packets. This area has good coverage by KD2CIF-1, KC2GOW-2, among others. But, as an urban environment, packets can often get missed when the transmitter is moving about and becomes shadowed by buildings.

The antenna is outdoor-rated, but indoors for the time being. I am thinking through how to mount the whole system on the roof with power and internet connectivity.

I am also experimenting with a LoRa APRS node but it’s not reliably deployed yet.
